DIET SOLUTIONS FOR DRY, BRITTLE HAIR

There is no question that dry and brittle hair can be affected by your diet. It has been proven that a good diet when coupled with good hygiene and exercise can keep your hair healthy along with the rest of your body.

One main ingredient to keeping your hair healthy is the healing power of the natural oils created by the body. These oils get their healing powers from your diet in the form of essential fatty acids. It is the nutrient that allows your body to help repair broken patches and keep in your hair’s moisture. This is what gives your hair its strength and luster.

Essential fatty acids come from oils found in fish like tuna, trout, and mackerel. Americans generally eat very little fish or prepare it by frying out all the nutrients. Steamed or broiled fish is the best, and its nutrients can help give your hair some much needed building blocks for repair.

Moisture is also a very important factor to the body’s overall function, and it won’t surprise you that the amount of water you drink can affect your hair’s health as well. Drinking the required six to eight glasses of water a day will ensure that your hair and your body are getting what they need to function and stay healthy.

Finally, when possible, try to stick to organic foods. Organically grown food tends to have more natural minerals absorbed into it. Some studies indicate that silica – a trace mineral – can lead to stronger, healthier hair as well.

DIET SOLUTION FOR HAIR STARTING TO TURN GREY

Everyone knows that healthy diet is essential to a healthy body. The same goes for your hair. Eat badly and not only is your body unhealthy but so is your hair. If you are lacking anything in your diet, the first place it shows up is your hair. Depending on what you eat, your hair could be brittle, dry, greasy, oily, or beautiful.

If your hair is starting to grey, you may want to blame your diet. It’s possible that diet is to blame for graying hair, especially if you are graying prematurely. However, there is no definitive evidence that says diet is responsible. There are some suggestions that an amino acid called tyrosine can help with graying because it is the precursor to the pigments in hair and skin that produce color. It’s not known if it really helps but if you want to try to get more amino acids, lean proteins, (fish, chicken, lean red meats, for example) are great places to start.

Until we know for sure whether your diet can help or cause graying hair, keep eating as healthy as you can and stick to a good diet. And of course, there is always hair dye.
